Find your footing
These tips describe the latest beta. Some controls may differ in earlier builds.
How do I move things without moving them by accident?
Press and hold a photo, note, task, or reminder until it lifts slightly, then drag it. A quick tap selects it. Swipe on the paper to explore, and use Fit to bring your thoughts into view.
Where are the pen and eraser?
Open the drawing tool in the floating dock to choose Pen or Eraser. Draw with one finger; use two fingers to move around while drawing. Switch back to the selection tool when you want to work with objects.
The pen uses your chosen color. “Use contrasting ink” is optional and starts off. If a color is difficult to see on your paper, choose another color or explicitly turn on contrasting ink. Undo can reverse your latest edit.
How do I change text or fit more into a sticky note?
Select the note or heading and choose Edit. Sticky notes grow to fit their text. In Settings, choose a canvas font: Cosmic, Clean, Rounded, or Serif. Paper color and appearance are separate preferences.
Can I resize a photo without cropping it?
Yes. Select the photo, open its editor, and adjust its size. The app keeps the image’s proportions and shows the full optimized image. Your original photo library is unchanged; canvas exports contain optimized copies, not original photo files.
Will the onboarding example send me a notification?
No. “Read tomorrow at 5 PM” is sample content. Open its reminder and explicitly activate it if you want a real reminder. The reminder shows its date and time and also appears in Week.
Why didn’t my reminder alert me?
Check that the reminder is active and notifications are allowed in iPhone Settings. Focus and notification settings can affect delivery. Cosmic keeps a limited upcoming alert queue; it shows deferred or failed scheduling rather than claiming an alert is ready. Open the app to reconcile upcoming reminders. Don’t rely on Cosmic as your only alert for something safety-critical.
What does “Export this reminder” mean?
It adds a 15-minute event to the calendar you choose in Cosmic’s Settings. This is separate from Cosmic’s own reminder notification. Calendar permission and a writable destination are required; export is optional.
Linked title and time edits can update the event. Cosmic does not add a calendar alarm, although the calendar provider may apply its own defaults. A local save does not mean the provider has finished syncing.
Can I use my Google calendar?
Yes, through a writable Google calendar already configured on your iPhone. In Cosmic’s Settings, set up Calendar and select the destination. There is no separate Google sign-in inside Cosmic.
Completing a task keeps its calendar event. Deleting a linked item offers event removal. Disconnecting preserves existing events. For beta testing, use a dedicated test calendar.
How do I keep a backup or restore my canvas?
In Settings, choose “Prepare a canvas export,” then “Save or share this export.” Keep the .doodledo file somewhere safe before deleting the app or testing recovery. It includes optimized images, not your original photo files.
“Restore from an export” previews the file before merging it into your existing canvas. Restored reminders do not automatically schedule notifications or export calendar events; activate them explicitly. We don’t have a server copy of your canvas to restore for you.
Where is content shared from another app?
Choose Cosmic To Do in the iPhone share sheet. Shared images, text, and web links wait in the app’s local shared container until Cosmic imports them. Open Cosmic to finish importing. If needed, use Settings → “Check for shared thoughts.”
Does Cosmic need an account or internet connection?
No app account is required. Notes, drawings, tasks, and your saved canvas work offline. Optional calendar-provider synchronization, iCloud photo downloads, support email, and TestFlight downloads may need a connection. There is no Cosmic cloud-sync service.
